Lessons at Largesse

The program of study at Largesse has two main parts: Private and Group lessons.

Private lessons are the primary mode of instruction in the basics of the instrument, details of new technique, and to carefully prepare new repertoire.

Group lessons allow students to benefit from a community of young musicians, and to hone the essential ensemble skills they will need.

Parents are expected to attend all private and group lessons to allow them to provide proper support to the student during practice sessions at home. While the parent’s role will change over time, the active engagement of parents is an important part of student success at any age. At Largesse we feel that community support is a key to musical growth, and encourage parents to share experiences, tips, challenges and successes with each other.

Private Lessons

Private lessons are the primary mode of instruction for Largesse students.

Private instruction provides an opportunity to work through the basics of the instrument, details of new technique, and to carefully prepare new repertoire. Every step of learning is taken with an eye to preparing for the most advanced pieces right from day one. Experience tells us that achieving a high level of ability requires a close collaborative effort between teacher, student and parent.

Private lessons at Largesse are included as part of the basic registration package. Lessons are held weekly at a set time through the teaching season (September to June). Typically a student will begin with a 30 minute private lesson, increasing to 45 minutes or an hour as the student progresses.

Largesse Group Lessons

Music is a community activity, and regularly meeting with other musicians to share your passion for music, to play and learn together, is an essential part of any musical education. At Largesse, a weekly group lesson is part of standard registration. Group sessions are overlapped to provide opportunity for students of different levels to interact with, learn from, and be inspired by each other.

Currently group lessons are held on Monday evenings at our Millwoods location. Group sessions are overlapped to provide opportunity for students of different levels to interact with, learn from, and be inspired by each other. Group Lessons are held on Mondays between 4:30-7:30, beginning with the youngest students.

All students are welcome to join the Largesse Group Lesson program, if you are interested please discuss the possibility with your private lesson teacher. Group Lessons follow the material and teaching philosophy of Suzuki’s Talent Education method.
